LOVELY GIFT INSPIRATION FOR VALENTINES DAY THAT ISN'T YOUR ORDINARY CHOCOLATE & FLOWERS

The day of love typically is a time where you can see florists prepping their long stem red roses and heart shaped chocolate boxes filled with deliciousness. While getting a box of chocolates and flowers is a classic move and appreciated, why not show your love with a little something different and thoughtful this Valentine's. Here are some lovely items to get you inspired to gift that special person in your life... including yourself!

Don't forget the hugs, kisses and love notes too!

 xoxo

The Case of 'Nude' Tones Bras

Photo: Thirdlove

When shopping for a bra, I usually go for the basics. One that matches my skin tone so I can wear it with most of my clothing, black, navy and a "fun" one. I know I've typically seen the "skintone" bra color called nude. Being a white female, I recognize this as being one of the white privileges. When I shopped, I wouldn't call it nude when speaking to the associate. I would mention something like "a bra that matches my skin or I would call it off-white, beige or cream. Realistically, I know that is not enough. Why is a fair toned bra still called nude? and why are some brands only offering one type of nude color? I mean is a nude bra really nude for each one of our unique skin tones? Does that one nude tone sold in a particular style represent a black woman? And all the other skin tones across the world? I started looking at intimate brands to see which ones had multiple nude tones in their bras and which ones did not.

Blazer & Go

There are a few pieces in my closet that I don't mind spending extra money on. I call these my investment pieces; you can try to use that if you happen to spend a little more on something you like and need to justify your purchase!  In all seriousness, a winter jacket and boots (living in Canada and wearing them for 6 months out of the year) are definitely items I don't mind spending money on and my third investment piece is a blazer. Since I'm not much of a winter person, I will skip talking about the first two and focus on what to look for when purchasing a blazer and why I believe it's okay to spend a little more on a blazer as a closet staple.

Beauty in 5

Like many mama's, I have had less time to do my hair and makeup on a daily basis since having children. Since I've been home at lot more with the little ones, I tend to be makeup free.

When I had to run some errands and/or felt like putting on some makeup, I needed something quick to get me out the door. I also was more cautious of what I was putting on my face since my children are constantly close to it. I didn't want anything that potentially could rub off on them and cause a reaction on their delicate skin, especially for a newborn or under one year.

New Mom Gift Ideas

I remember the first time bringing my son home from the hospital. My husband and I got through the door, brought our son to the family room still in his detachable car seat, both looked at each other with the face "now what?" We didn't have to say a word as we were both thinking the same thing.
As much as you prepare and think you'll be ready you never truly are!

Spruce up your Water

It's the Victoria Day long weekend here in Canada (also known as May 2-4) and we finally have some decent spring like weather. That means we'll be spending as much time outdoors as possible...as tomorrow calls for rain. I don't know about you, but I always found the Victoria Day Long weekend to be the unofficial start to summer.

all things coffee

I thought I wouldn't become that coffee drinker. You know, the one that needs their coffee a specific way, or at a specific time, or a certain brand or coffee chain. I considered myself a casual coffee drinker; when I'd be out at a restaurant and order a latte with dessert or brunch with my girlfriends or more specifically at my grandparents when they would take out the vintage Bialetti Moka express.
